Troubleshooting

Thumbstick is when unwanted and random movement can occur within game, often without touching the controller.

This generally occurs after heavy use, although in some cases can occur sooner. Since approx. Xmas 2018, Sony began using a new thumbstick mechanism, which  unfortunately is not as reliable as the previous version.

To try and resolve drift, you can try the below methods.

  • Rotation
    • Press the thumbstick in (l3/R3)
    • While pressing the thumbstick in, rotate clockwise for approx. 15-20 seconds
    • Repeat anti-clockwise, again for approx. 15-20 seconds.
    • Test in game to see if the issue has been resolved
  • Compressed Air
    • In some cases, debris may have entered the mechanism, and can be dislodged by spraying compressed air.
    • Moved the thumbstick down and hold in place
    • Spray compressed air inside the opening
    • Try this in a number of positions
  • Reset The Controller
    • Turn your controller on
    • Look for  a small hole on the rear of your controller, near the top right screw.
    • Using a paperclip/toothpick, press into the hole and hold for approx.  5 seconds
    • This will reset your controller.
  • These methods may not work, in which case unfortunately your controller will need to be returned for repair.

When buttons fail to activate, in 95% of the case this is due to a controller being dropped or bumped. When this happens the installed mod chip can move slightly, breaking contact which affects button activation.

The other 5% can often be fixed by resetting the controller.

  • Reset The Controller
    • Turn your controller on
    • Look for  a small hole on the rear of your controller, near the top right screw.
    • Using a paperclip/toothpick, press into the hole and hold for approx.  5 seconds
    • This will reset your controller.

If you have a REMAP chip installed, you may simply need to remap your rear buttons.

  • To remap rear buttons

    • Hold the touchpad until you see a red LED flash in the touchpad lightbar, this indicated remapping mode has been enabled.
    • Press the button you would like to map, EG – X. A red LED will flash indicating your selection
    • Press the rear button you would like to map X to, EG – Left Rear. A red LED will flash indicating the button has been mapped.
    • Repeat for additional buttons
    • Press the touchpad again to exit remapping mode, a red LED will flash to indicate remapping mode has been exited.

If you continue to have issues with your controller, do not hesitate to contact us so we can arrange to have this fixed ASAP.
